The JCT
Plastic Surgery International Exchange Delegation visited FEMH on August 6,
bringing together experts from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Mongolia.
On August
6, FEMH in cooperation with the Joint Commission of Taiwan and the Taiwan
International Healthcare Training Center, hosted a "Smart Healthcare
Visiting Exchange Event." F FEMH
welcomed 10 plastic surgery specialists from Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and
Mongolia to learn about and exchange insights on the hospital's achievements in
AI-powered wound care and smart healthcare innovation.
Focusing
on burn and chronic wound care, the visit combined clinical care with
artificial intelligence technology, showcasing
FEMH's strengths in digital transformation and smart healthcare innovation.
During
the keynote session, Dr. Dun-Hao Chang, Chief of the Department of Plastic
Surgery, delivered a presentation titled "Artificial Intelligence-Assisted
Decision Support System for Burn and Chronic Wound Care," introducing the
team's years of achievements in AI wound recognition and telehealth wound care
technologies. The research team utilizes deep learning technology to evaluate
burn surface area, classify wound tissue, and measure wound area, assisting
healthcare personnel in assessing wound conditions more rapidly and
objectively. Combined with a telehealth platform, patients can upload images
from home to remain connected with the care team, enhancing accessibility and
continuity of care.
In
addition, Nurse Head Ya-Wen Lin and Nurse Meng-Chang Guo from the Nursing
Department shared practical experience in implementing the AI smart wound
system (JUBO). Traditional wound care requires separate steps for photography,
documentation, and data organization, which is time-consuming and makes
tracking wound progression difficult. The AI smart wound system enables
simultaneous image capture, data archiving, and wound analysis integrated
directly with the HIS, allowing care teams to track patient wound progress in
real time. The system also provides analysis results, such as wound size,
staging, and tissue classification as clinical references, effectively
improving work efficiency and care quality.
The
visiting delegation also toured the Medical Intensive Care Unit and the Wound and Stoma Care Consultation
Clinic to observe smart wound care workflows and clinical applications
firsthand. In-depth discussions took place on topics including AI technology
implementation, interprofessional team collaboration, data security management,
and telehealth development. Participants expressed that they benefited greatly
and were deeply impressed by FEMH's innovative model of combining clinical
expertise with information technology. Furthermore, Dr. Yao-Jen Chang from Shin
Kong Hospital was invited to share practical clinical experience using "I-SWATR
Intelligent Wound Software" for wound interpretation and care management.
This exchange demonstrated the diverse value of smart wound care technology in
clinical adoption across different healthcare settings.
This
event not only highlighted FEMH’s achievements and practical clinical
experiences in AI smart wound care, but also allowed medical experts from
Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Mongolia to gain a deeper understanding of
AI's real-world effectiveness in wound assessment, care management, and
telehealth applications through presentations and site visits. Through
international knowledge exchange and professional dialogue, FEMH demonstrated
its ability to integrate clinical expertise, nursing care, and digital
technologies while showcasing how Taiwan’s smart healthcare innovations are
being successfully translated into real-world clinical practice.
